GRANDVIEW RACER MIKE BAILEY REMEMBERED, SERVICES SET (Poppa Pepper photo)
He sat in the No. 81 NASCAR 358 Modified, the same car he drove to an impressive second place finish at Grandview on Saturday night, anxious to see if he could get a win.
Mike Bailey had been away from stock car racing at Grandview for a few seasons. He got back in the Dennis and Joanne Bailey owned Modified several weeks back. It was a struggle for a while but this past Saturday it all seemed to come together with the second place finish.
On Tuesday night Mike had earned a starting spot in the Thunder on the Hill Modified feature and sat in his race car on the track waiting for the event to get the green flag. Suddenly the veteran racer slumped over the steering wheel. Emergency crews rushed to his aid. He was quickly removed from the car and rushed to the hospital. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
The good natured racer, 39, was popular with fans and racers. He had one feature win to his credit in the NASCAR 358 Modifieds and was always considered a threat to finish up in a top spot.
The Bailey Family, including Mike’s parents Randy and Donna Bailey, have been huge supporters of the sport going back many years.
Mike, who made his home in Kutztown as did much of the Bailey family, leaves behind a wife, Melissa and three children (Madison, Eli and Reese).
Bruce and Teresa Rogers, owners of Grandview Speedway along with Thunder on the Hill promotional partners Bob and Donna Miller along with all involved with auto racing at Grandview extend their deepest sympathies to the Bailey Family.
“It is such a shock to have someone that you have seen grow up in the sport, a fixture over the years at our track, pass away at such a young age,” said Bruce Rogers. “He will be missed by all that are involved with racing at Grandview.”
The viewing for Mike Bailey is set for Monday, August 3 with calling time being 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Ludwig Funeral Home, 333 Greenwich St. Kutztown, PA. Calling time will again take place at 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4th with services taking place at 11:00 a.m.

Article 2
Bechtelsville, PA– On Tuesday July 28, 2015 Grandview Speedway lost Modified driver Mike Bailey. As Mike was on the track getting ready to line-up for a special mid-week event he had a medical issue and passed away later that night. On Saturday night Grandview had a memorial for Mike as the Bailey's have been racing at the track since the 1970's, Mike was the son of Randy and was driving for his Uncle Dennis and Aunt Joanne this year, he was 39 years old.
The racing started after the ceremony concluded. Dan was in the second heat starting in the 7th position for 8 lap race. The race went non-stop as Dan moved forward and finished 4th at the checkered.
G & H Motorsports team members of Scott Green, Cathy Green, Debbie Dutter, Jesse Bivins, Bob Higginbotham and Brett Higginbotham prepared the Farmer's Insurance #46, as Jim Alexander was a spectator with a broken ankle suffered last Sunday July 26th. Get Well Soon Jim!
Starting 9th in the 25 Lap NASCAR BRC Late Model feature Dan took the green and quickly moved towards the front. At the first caution, on lap 4 Dan was running 4th. The restart had Dan follow Drew Weisser #19, Lou Egrie Jr #4e and Randy Stoudt #10 for several laps as the caution flag came out a couple times. Stoudt dropped out during a lap 6 caution with mechanical issues. Dan stayed in the 3rd spot until lap 15 when he was able to drive under Weisser for second. Dan ran second for 5 laps until last weeks winner and point leader Chuck Schultz #1 was able to get by him and then Egrie Jr to take the win and continue the point lead. Congratulations to Schultz for his 4th win of the season. Dan finished 3rd and continues to be 4th in points.
G & H Motorsports had a couple sponsors make an appearance to the track to watch Dan race during the night. Ed Mann and Mike Grogan from Hot Rod Processing and Linda and Dave Deeney from Linda's Hair Techniques all made the trip to Bechtelsville PA. We did hear that all had a great time and want to make a return trip as soon as they can.
Next event for the G & H Motorsports team is Saturday August 8, 2015 at Just Mom's Ice Cream and Grille, 1050 N Manor Rd, Honey Brook, PA for a meet and greet from 11 AM to 3 PM, before heading to Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, PA as racing starts at 7:30 PM.
